What started as a simple ask, create a pop up for The Get Down Coffee Co. within the Afro Punk Solution Sessions turned into hosting the Solutions Sessions at the location of the business. Transforming a predominately Black Neighborhood into a large scale event hosting over 400 people on the corner of Humboldt and 44th ave.

How do you create an event the resonates across generations within a community of people that has a wide definition of this word, Black.

The idea of what Blackness means.

That was our challenge, and thats how the idea of Aunties basement came to life, the combination of owner Houston White’s own experience along with the idea of being at your family’s house, thats a little dated, may include plastic covering but full of love.

After scouring many thrift stores, we pulled together a full brand experience turning the backyard of The Get Down Coffee Co. into a Auntie’s Basements. Which become a moment for black joy, black love, and black liberation all right in our own neighborhood.
